Wolfram Alpha
Wolfram Alpha isn't a search engine, in a sense that it returns webpages as query results like Google does - rather, it is a "computational knowledge engine." You and I may simply call it an "answer engine," ask it a question and it'll come up with the answer.
It has limits though.
Does know the history of Gothic in the historical sense, but has no idea what a goth is.
It's extremely good at math and does very well with conversions.
And if you ask it to tell you the meaning of life you get:
Search the Web
the meaning of life
Assuming "the meaning of life" is a quantity | Use as a movie instead
Input interpretation: answer to life, the universe, and everything
