Philip Bradbourn, another Conservative MEP, vowed to ignore the booklet, which he described as a "waste of taxpayers' money" and called on Mr Romer to reveal its cost.

He added: "I will have no part of it. I will continue to use my own language and expressions, which I have used all my life, and will not be instructed by this institution or anyone else in these matters."

EXACTLY clap

Ehrm... I don't understand something here... why is this a reason to be happy or angry? Seems like a waste of time and money to me. Don't we have an economic crisis over us? Does the European Union has anything better to do than this?

I think that if people want to be known by a gender neutral phrase then fine but I do hate Mrs and Miss but wouldn't mind it if there were diff ones for men, you wouldn't when filling out a form, after asking for a man's title ask if he is married! It is totally irrelevant and it buggs me so much when colleagues at work assume a young woman or an old woman is a Mrs or Miss.

Oh for Goddess sake! Mad

There are people struggling to pay bills, to keep a roof over their heads and to keep their jobs. There are people living in constant fear of going into debt. There are people starving in our own countries and the European Parliament cant think of anything other than this. It's political correctness gone arse up.

Pft! I've always loathed the term "ms"

Helen Damnation (MRS) and damned bloody proud of it heart

My thoughts, exactly! I mean, what the hell? Are they avoiding important issues while searching on the bottom of the "What-to-do" bin?

They have to justify their massive expense accounts Rolling Eyes

We were actually having a similar discussion at work today about being adults but constantly being told what to do by those in power. I am very tempted to use an extremely rude word right now but I'm a lady so I will refrain from so doing

It reminds me something that happened in Spain a while ago. A minister refered the people as "members and mebressess (some sort of feminine version of Member)" she was so upset to find there was no female version of "Member" that she requested one to be made by the largest dictionary of the Spanish language... and she's still a joke about political correctness.

In the UK being referred to as a "member" is a bit of an insult! Laughing

Since our firm became a limited liability partnership, all of the partners are now known as "members" and I cant think of a group of people more deserving of the name Laughing

That's my translation... the actual word she used was "miembros y miembras"... apparently miembras is something related to bullfighting.

She didn't know what was it. I bet since Word approved "Miembra" she let it in thinking it was a female version of "miembro" (member) without knowing it was related to bullfighting.

This is as idiotic as those "scientific studies" that get millions of dollars in grants that serve no other purpose but to tell us that "Eating Mickey Ds and sitting on the couch will make you fat".

Actually, no this is five million times more idiotic.

Until I start reproducing asexually, I will be weirded out by gender neutral terms.
