PostSubject: Pirate Radio   Mon Feb 23, 2009 2:34 pm

SInce my local radio stations suck and the only rock one has gone down the tubes, I'm looking into starting my own "pirate" radio station. I'd get the licences and all that, but I think I'd still be concidered Pirate for one reason or another.

I need help finding music that I'll be playing.

So far I have the Following that I'll be playing:

Erben der Schöpfung (Elis)
Kamelot
Nightwish
Sonata Arctica
Epica
Within Temptation
After Forever
Angelzoom
Sirenia
Lacuna Coil
Apocalyptica
Tarot
Xandria
Leaves Eyes
Orphaned Land
Visions of Atlantis
Tiamat
Persephone
Beseech
Dignity
Katra
Naio Ssaion
MacBeth
Chalice
Sonata Nocturna
Hollywood Undead
Linkin Park
Hoobastank
Trapt
Breaking Benjamin
...........and a few other rock acts as I see fit.

Can you suggest any others? I'm not really wanting Death Grunts or Pig Squees, no none of that please... but anything will be considered.

Please help! and thanks in advance if you do!

Hee hee. I actually found this band on Napalm and then found your thread. Good band.
If you like them you might also go for Naio Ssaion BlaBla is pretty good.

As for Metallica... I've really been hating them lately because of St. Anger and Death Magnetic. So much so that I sold my copies of Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning... so maybe, but don't hold your breath.

^^ Your not the only who isnt liking the new Metallica as much. I threw my copy of St. Anger in the bin thats just how pissed I was with that dreadful piece of crap.

Master of Puppets and The Black album are the best albums of Metallica! hail

Since you're going in the whole goth metal direction, you may want to consider:
Delight

Artrosis

Desdemona

Edit: oh, and I almost forgot

Lullacry

Edit no. 2: (sorry, it's been years since I've listened to these bands)

Nemesea
Entwine

Haven't gotten to Vampira's or badart's lists yet, but here's to hoping for the best!

The Gathering is also good. Especially their live stuff, and songs from Mandylion.

Yeah, they were some of the better ones I listened to today. I'm going to think about them a bit before I say yay or nay though....

If anything I'd play them because of their status. They're one of the major pioneers in the goth-metal-ish genre and one of the earliest bands that began playing that style. They just don't really play in that style as much anymore.

I'm not really going for just Goth. Hell, I'll play Missy Elliott if I feel like it.

I wish I could find some more bands like Naio Ssaion, Nemesea, Entwine, ect. They're not metal, and they rock. Though I should probably find some more male fronted ones also. Mine is getting a bit oestrogen loaded.... lol but that's okay too. The Blaze (local station) is nothing but a testifest!

Nebraskan's. There's a little bit of everything here. I'm mainly just trying to show that the radio has complete cr@p on their station, hollywood sucks, and that they should look internationally for good music

In that case maybe you should have certain hours set up or certain days set up for a specific genre like reggie revolution from noon to 4 on Sundays or classic alternative on all day on Saturdays.

That's the thing though. That's predictable. Another reason I hate my local radio station is that everything has it's own little program, and if you can't get in on that short hour, you're screwed until next week.

I'm guess I'm a little picky. Check out some of the bands I've listed above and you'll see the general tone I'm going for.

I agree with Apocalypse. That way, you can catch listeners' attention from all perspectives, and then introduce them to some new music at the same time. And that way, you're less likely to run out of songs to play and less redundancy will occur.

Oh, I don't think I'd ever run out of songs. It's just coming up with ones that aren't already being played around town..... Hmm.... that reminds me. I need to look up old rock bands that I liked and they stopped playing. Like Burden Brothers.

Have you considered an internet radio station ? It's cheaper and sounds easier. You many not get as many listeners, but with the right kind of promotion you could get just as many or more.

^^I wouldn't mind one for my forum, but at the same time, I'd probably have about as many listeners as members.

One of the main reasons I wanted a pirate radio on the airwaves was to get people around here interested in some of my music and to tell the blaze to screw off for going capitalist on me.

I see. Well, upon reading that entire page of requirements listed by that site, it doesn't really seem like it's worth 35 bucks a month anyway.

OKay!! Apparently Loudcity does pay all the royalties and licensing for you. I was thinking you had to pay the $35 PLUS royalties etc. So, I guess it is not that bad. If you have $35 a month to spare.
