Goths 'ate girl in a pie'

    ARRESTS

Two teenage goths drowned a schoolgirl in a bath then ate her organs in a pie with potatoes, say police.

Butcher Maxim Golovatskhikh and florist Yuri Mozhnov, both 19, are said to have chopped up the 16-year-old's remains and dumped them in bin-liners around St Petersburg.

The pair, part of the goth sub-culture Emo, are being quizzed by Russian police.

Prosecutor Sergei Kapitonov said: "They said that they ate the girl's body parts because they were hungry."

Are we the only ones who know that there's a diffrence between Goth and Emo?

Apparently. Black clothes are black clothes, right? Mad

And of course their "style" is a crucial detail. No one who shops at J Crew is capable of taking a life.

I'm really sorry about all the sarcasm, but honestly, where do you start dispelling the ignorance around beliefs like those? It's so damn frustrating.

That is so screwed up. I don't care what the people look like who did it.

To answer your question of course we are the only ones that know the difference between Goth and Emo. All everyone else sees is black clothing and go with one of the two labels, they don't care to find out the difference. That would mean they would have to take their heads out of their a$$es and actually learn about a different culture. Because god forbid we actually take the time to learn about a different culture, no it's easier to just assume things and go by what everyone else says. lol. sad very sad. Rolling Eyes

I think its a horrible crime and couldnt care who did it its disgusting and wrong. Wether or not goths did it or not should be unimportant. However I will say this I do think its unfortunate they labled goth a cult and also associated it with emo. however on a side note just because were goths doesnt put us above crime and murded sure were less likely but were still humans and humans have flaws it would be naive to think other wise.

The word "Gothic" is a hot-button term meant to spark interest and sell fear, just like the words; terrorist, steroids, extremist, indecency, communist, treason, sin, evil. And all of these words have no real meaning to the media, but they hope a vague misconception or blind faith will let them sell the public on another witch trial. Lots of people know the difference between lots of terms, but the overall public finds it easier to clump things into a general term or ideal, because it's easier then taking the time to "know the enemy".

Simple answer: there is a difference - clothes do NOT make the culture.

    As for the article...

I thought about posting this story for a long time before I did post it.
It's depraved and sick and disgusting.I know that,it's something that I'm well aware of.
I probably could have posted this in a way that would have made more sense to everyone and I probably should have.
This crime took place in Russia.
It doesn't exscuse anything that happened and it doesn't make for a nice post even when you know where the post came from.
The cultural diffrences between Russia and almost everywhere else are astounding.
As far as I could tell from all the reading I did before I posted this,Russia doesn't even have any laws against cannibalisim in their law books.
They also tend to lump all the balck clad weirdo's into one group from what I can tell.
Emo is Goth as far as they are concerned.
When I asked the question are we the only ones who know there is a diffrence between Goth and Emo subcultures I guess I was referring to the geographical question.
I am sorry if this story upset people.
It was the least graphic one I could find.

They just have it confused. Goth and emo are both subcultures under the alternative genre.

As for the story..sounds like somebody's trying a little too hard to be "hardcore"...... sick

If you even look at the word "emo" and consider the word from which it came ("emotional"), classifying these heinous acts as "emo" makes absolutely no sense at all. Same with classifying the acts as being even remotely related to "Goth." It makes no damn sense.

So do you have to be Goth, or nerdy, or somehow strange, to want to **learn** about people & concepts different from your own, instead of succumbing to blind fear?

thats one version of the origin of "emo", the other is that the word "emo" came from "emotive hardcore" a style of music...

then again this does take place in Russia, the same place thats trying to outlaw emo/goth and every other sub-culture they find "weird" so I guess a story like this could be used as a means to that end... Also, Russia, not exacly on the cutting edge of the modern day

OK, well I guess I wasn't too far off on the meaning of the word, considering even "emotive hardcore" would just be "hardcore" without the emotional aspect.

I know little about Russian culture, but now I want to learn more -- if for no other reason than to dig deeper than the oppression issue.

That is just HORRID!!!!! Those girls had to be insane to do that! and yes, I think we are the only ones who know the difference. I get called "Emo" all the time because I wear all black. Wear I live, if you wear black and it isn't trip pants and band tees, it's emo.

Well, of course the Russian news WOULD make a big deal out of the people being involved being "emo" or "goth". Russia is trying to ban "emo" music, and also ban anyone dressed in a "gothic" or "emo" fashion from entering public buildings.

When I first read this story, I figured they were just throwing the words emo/gothic around to further their efforts for the ban. But, then I did find a picture of the girl who was killed and eaten. She was really pretty, and it did look emo-ish.

On the Emo/Goth/Whatever thing, one of the most important newspapers of my country wrote an article about a Mormon missionary who was beheaded and that police suspected of a "Goth cult" making goth a synonym of Satanic...

Why the kids were suspects? Because they went around showing drawings of beheaded Emos saying "Doesn't they look better in that way?"

That's a good question Max and it's one that diserves an answer.
Here is a more detailed version of the same story.
I believe they were suspected and arrested because she accompanied them willingly.
Also it seems like from this story that they confessed to doing that.

One of the worlds most famous cannibals was from japan and it took them 7 years to final get around to doing anything definitive about him and in the mean time he just bounced around from europe and japan, so I don't think one pie would count for much....

^Considering the population, over-crowdedness, and how fast-paced everything is over there... I honestly wouldn't be surprised if quite a few individuals let alone law enforcement actually welcomed such a crime.
Suppose in such a case it could depend on who the victims were:
No names off the street, random individuals who weren't well known in the community, random strangers, travelers, etc.
Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if people turning up "missing" was a common occurrence that leaves the mentality of "oh, they'll show up eventually" or something.
    crazy
