I have no clue I'm afraid. There isn't a whole lot of stories about this anywhere on the web so I'm at a loss to explain it myself.

You would think Ravengrim that it was stated that this was not the first time that this "sea creature" has been spouted from the ocean that there would be more articles on it.

I have looked over the pics again and again ...and the way the jaw hinged and the interior of the mouth kind or resembles a sea turtle....just my randomness rambling in my head. Rolling Eyes

PostSubject: What ever could it be? :O   Wed Dec 17, 2008 12:30 pm

It's a sperm whale corpse. According to Wiki-
Quote :
Another modern example of a "sea monster" was the strange creature washed up on the Chilean sea shore in July, 2003. It was first described as a "mammoth jellyfish as long as a bus" but was later determined to be another corpse of a sperm whale. Cases of boneless, amorphic globsters are sometimes believed to be gigantic octopuses, but it has now been determined that sperm whales dying at sea decompose in such a way that the blubber detaches from the body, forming featureless whitish masses that sometimes exhibit a hairy texture due to exposed strands of collagen fibers.

Was trying to find a date/time this was posted as I've seen something like this within the past year... wasn't certain if this was the same thing or not though.

In my opinion, it looks like a miniature well. Perhaps from the cold depths of the water where it'd need additional "fur" to keep warm versus the typical "skin" most whales have. May be similar to the relation between Woolly Mammoths and Elephants.

Well, it's sure interesting. Sadly.

It reminds me of the thoughts I've had as passing roadkill and seeing all the odd positions some of them are in. And I wonder or think, more so, that somewhere out there there's gotta be a photo book of some kind dedicated to roadkill.

Ah I don't know if I really... do washed ashore wales have the type of flesh that looks like burnt squares of something when it has been out in the sun for long periods of time or during decay? Still looks like some rigged up drying system for kelp or some kind of something to me. Lifted up to allow air flow.

It's cool, but sad as I said before. I wanna touch it and see it for myself though.

That looks like dried flesh. It's a freakin whale carcass. Some say it's a sperm whale, others say it's a humpback whale. This is old news.

Since nobody seems to pay attention to wikipedia quotes, I'll explain it myself. The blubber dissolved leaving exposed strands of collagen fibers that look like hair. I'm going to add-sometimes the flesh gets so weak that even the skeleton falls out of the mass of flesh and sinks to the bottom. In this case its head probably rotted off and what you're seeing as the "turtle mouth" is actually the top of its vertebrae and rib cage.

Some articles mention it having paws. Ever seen a whale skeleton?

I read'em and it was nice of you to include them!

I just haven't gotten to see the real mass of flesh thing though. Thanks for the "looks like dried flesh". I was thinking that the rest of the body would have been submerged then and thus would not have been exposed to the same conditions as the top portion.

It was probably picked away at and eaten on too I would imagine. wtf hmm... Smell ?

top left corner... it was posted today...

ok sooo I can't see the "hair" and I'm not so ready to jump into the sea monster side just yet but I'm not saying its a whale either. Actually being is that their is so little on this thing I'm hoping it is a cryptid.

Yeah, it looked like a decaying corpse of a whale of some type.
