I'm on a mission to begin learning a new language.

The most widespread languages in the world are, respectively:
English
French
Russian
Spanish
Portuguese
Chinese

So obviously, those would be the most practical languages to learn. However, I already know english, have been studying french for years, failed at spanish, and would rather not learn any new characters. I'm more interested in a language more prominent in mid to northern Europe.

What are some languages you all are interested in? What are some you've learned? Are they difficult?

I know German. Is not difficult!~ At least not for me since I learned it when I was a little kid.

Other easy one would be portuguese. With a french background and some knowledge from spanish...shouldn't be hard to you I suppose.

Pronunciation is really easy [like japanese] but writing...I don't know...I may try some day.
Italian is great as well. You could drool all over the greatest Operas [since a lot of great ones are in italian] knowing all the meaning, even more than us spanish speakers

I know Spanish, English and studying French. Also I studied two years of Latin in high school and a bit of Greek (I only remember "Good morning" though)

I would like to learn German and Italian, Portuguese is not that different from Spanish and with a little of pacience and French it's easily understood and perhaps if I really have the time and the will, perhaps Japanese

I'd like to learn Finnish, too Morbid! I used to be obsessed with it years ago. Italian was another one I was thinking of as well. I think LiveMocha.com has German, I dunno about any of the others. It's a good way to get started on the basics, cuz it has listening exercises and writing and everything.

Well, the problem with Finnish is that is only spoken in Finland...

I'm fluent in English, Welsh and goobledygook!

Welsh is really really easy, you just say each word as you see it but you do have to have the ability to roll your rrrrrrrs

I speak English and Spanish. Was trying to learn Norwegian a while ago, but with school and all I got distracted. Norwegian has alot in common with English, and I would love to go back to it some time in the future. Other languages that interest me are German, Hebrew and Arabic.

Don't worry about the rrrrrrrrrrs for Morbid and I, it's part of our language as well

In what other languages can I roll my Rs?

I can do a great Russian accent but I have to be in my alternative guise of Madam Vodka for it to have full effect

I can speak English, Spanish, Italian, and a little bit or Arabic. Would soooo love to learn Russian.

Right now I'm learning Japanese (I'm in an intermediate college class), going to study in Japan next year.

After that, I don't know...I really want to learn more languages. I've studied Latin, I want to learn French and German.

That will be soo Cool! I would have loved to have taken Japanese when I was in college, but sadly they did not offer it. I'm very glad that you are somewhere that they do!

Not to sound like the barrer of bad news, but I could not pick up much of any language for the life of me. My mom picked up that rosetta stone thing for me, but I never used it. I hear it is really good for helping you to be able to learn any language quickly and easily.

I know quite a bit of Spanish and a little Arabic. Once I master those, would love to learn Russian. I love the way it sounds. My late fiancee was Russian and his accent was so yummy.

I know some Spanish. I took some classes in jr. high and then a class in high school. I really never got the hang of it. I wish I would of studied/practiced more back then.

I know a little French,German,Russian and Polish.

I get by.

The only thing I know from Polish is "Pivo"
