You did have to specify. My mom sat here for years doing nothing because she couldn't due to her medical problems.

I agree with you on that one. And that's where I draw the line. I hate seeing people who don't even try to get their lives together and just sign up for welfare and still get money. That personally is a slap in my face. I know personally, my mother and I were working really hard to make it day to day. I think that the government should be checking up on people to make sure they're not abusing that power because there are people who actually need that money who can't get it themselves.

In all, I still feel the wealthy should pay higher taxes. The poor shouldn't have to because things are really expensive now and some can barely make ends meet. That's just my opinion on that. If I were rich, i'd still say the same and wouldn't find it to be a problem because not everyone makes 6 figures and I would be blessed in that I would.

Just as you. That's one thing I do like about politics. Different viewpoints. I may be Democratic, but that doesn't mean i'm always going to vote that way. For example, i'm voting Joe Robach back in. Dillenger can go somewhere.

Something what I said on another forum about US, bipartidism and demential political rants

Quote :
Government by Party! Introduce that great and glorious
element--at once the bulwark and foundation of England's
greatness--and all will be well! No political measures will
endure, because one Party will assuredly undo all that the
other Party has done; and while grouse is to be shot, and
foxes worried to death, the legislative action of the coun-
try will be at a standstill. Then there will be sickness in
plenty, endless lawsuits, crowded jails, interminable confu-
sion in the Army and Navy, and, in short, general and unex-
ampled prosperity!

Utopia Limited, By Gilbert & Sullivan

About the issue of political fanatism and stereotyping strikes to me (in an outsider's point-of-view) how these groups separate more and more in their activities to the point to seem foreigners on their own country. Conservative churches, liberal universities, conservatives neighborhoods, liberal states.... but we forget we all want the same things: three warm meals, a roof over our heads and to know our family can sleep safely tonight.

But there is the media and polls and whatnot that make your country look like mostly red or mostly blue, that's not the truth

Mostly purple-ish, but is interesting to notice that a lot of the red zone are on the country areas in the center while the blue ones are mostly on the coast and the borders (e.g. the biggest and most important cities) and this make it look like a conflict of the city folk vs. the outback people (not trying to offend anyone here, guys). Dad usually tells that NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. are like liberal islands in a sea of conservatism, but I have always considered him too liberal; also a US Mormon, wife of my English teacher also told me that a lot of the mostly white medium-class were moving from California to Idaho and Oregon and all those states; so I am assuming (again, sorry if I am way off; I don't live there and all the media are usually biased) that we are seeking a process of ostracism here. I have seen websites of people pretending to make all US liberals to move to Vermont and is eeriely similar to those websites pretending white people to move to some mostly-white state to make their nutopia while the conservatives stay on their little communities of Eagleville, Acirema County, Idahohiowa or in some old classic American Way suburbs with lifeless houses that all look the same.

And you forget they are fellow countrymen, or they forget you are their fellow countrymen and they start to blend in stereotypes. We do not read nor hear, just see. That the Liberals are Hippie Pagans that consider animal life far more valuabe than their own skin, that the Conservatives think they are hollier than Christ, God and all the Angels combined and piss fresh spring water, that the Liberals want to make everyone in big useless babies sucking the breasts of Columbia and Uncle Sam, that Conservatives want to tatoo a bar code in our neck, put cameras on our asses and make everyone pray at every hour.

But is not that simple

Alot seem to believe that if someone, for example, is against abortions he must be a religious person or at least a conservative, if she is a feminist she must be a liberal since only real feminist are liberals. But this is a lie, life is not that simple and politics aren't just a two-way road

I shall give you two examples: my grandfather, an atheist and communist man of science and university professor who speaks 3 or 4 languages fluently doesn't believe in the Global Warming and he has a point for his opinions (which I am not going to mention since I would make this poster longer) and consider that coral reefs produced also quite a large number of damage to the ozone (since they produce heavy quantities of CO2 as they grow)

The other example is a girl from NY whom I talk a lot on another forum. She is a goth with piercings and tattoos who adore taking herself pictures in pin-up art and considers abortions as morally wrong since is an unnatural process that treats a future human life as a decease or a tumor who can just thrown away to the garbage can.

I, too, have fallen into the political stereotypes on my own country seeing at times either the government people as poor desperate people decieved to believe that they family have a voice while eating breadcrumbs from the official charity or as uneducated parvenus who spend the people's money on Hummers and voyages to Miami while preaching us the evils of capitalism but at the same time it bothers me when someone calls them as dirty commies since they don't actually have ideology or when they compare him to Pinochet since Pinochet was a fascist monster at the same time they see me since I am on The Opossition as someone born in wealth and worship the dirty toilets of uncle Sam and using the Venezuelan tricolor as a napkin, when I deeply love my country and don't plan to leave it anytime soon but enough of talking about here; the topic is there.

The media; what are the media? a tinted pair of glasses. Alot of people believe that they are their eyes and ears when we forget that some executive who owns the channel may have shares on Viacom or a news reporter may had been in Greenpeace on college. I do not bother much with the news opinions that I know it follows my opinion since I don't want to wank myself with it, but I rather prefer to know what does the other side thinks about it and try to see their point. I believe in God, but I think I have lurking more Atheist and Agnostic forums than Christian ones. I don't support the United Socialist Party of Venezuela their ideas nor Hugo Chávez, but I read more the articles of their supporters that those who don't. I am not a racist, one of the people I more love that is my little sister is mixed-race, but I must admit I have entered once or twice to a White Supremacist forum to see why all the rage was about, I am attracted to women and don't have a vagina but I have entered to Radical Feminist forums to know why they think I am a walking abortion and the most scary part of it is that in all those forums there was a game of "What song are you listening about?" or "Pictures of ourselves" or something of that style, just plain humans becoming extremists to protect their roof, their three meals a day and their family.

Do they had a point? A point is this (.) a dot drown on a surface. It doesn't matter if someone had a point or not since on their eyes they had a point. Why are Cons and Libs so polarizing? because no one wants to see two grown people discussing their opinions fair and balanced, must of the people want to see just that they are right and disregard the other side of the business. They want the Roman Circus! seen the other side being devored by lions and see they are right! But at the end, not even reality is sure... since reality is made by the point of all the people. For the Greeks, throwing a sick baby from a cliff was right since that baby would cause a burden the rest and pederasty was just part of education while slaves seemed to be happy there, Greeks couldn't concieve the world without slavery.

Everyone is right, everyone is wrong...

You think is the end of the Bush quagmire? I bet when Herbert Hoover left the White House everyone thought no one could elect such wreckage, idem with Hoover, and John Tyler and there will be thousand of George Walker Bush Juniors, poor puppets for their party's interests who reached where they are by chance, at the same time there will be thousand of Barack Obamas, messianic-type of figure whose people has invested their hope blindly and thousand of John McCains, proud heros wanting to see the nation they have served shine once more, and all of them spread through history and ages in different sex, race, shape, etc. My grandfather, the one I mentioned above, remembered how in the 60's my country had to reheal after the dictatorship of the 1950's and seemed so upset since after 40 years of democracy that grew rotten again he has now to see another dictatorship on his old age and that is now me who must reheal our country, La Patria...

So, don't be so blind dear people of US who has given the world many good and bad things, remember the words of Alan Moore in Watchmen "Nothing ever ends"

I have gotten so fed up with politics that I have become apathetic. It doesn't matter the party, they are all the same. With that said, I can't wait for Obama to get into office.

And take a look at this:

At least we have this to look forward to... LOL

Quote :
Britain is Repossessing the U.S.A.

An open letter from Mr.John Cleese of Monty Python fame to the people south of the 49th parallel which I think is delightful so enjoy:

To the Citizens of the United States of America:

In light of the strong possibility you are about to elect an elderly gentleman with a bad temper and a lady who thinks she can run foreign policy because she can see Russia from her house, as President and President-In-Waiting of the USA and thus to risk Life.

As We Know It for everyone else on the Planet, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately.

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy). She won't actually be in charge, but she'll greet foreign leaders as necessary and not put her foot in it or vomit on anyone at dinner.

Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections. He will choose someone who does not have his or her hand in the till and has significant experience in running Big Things. You have not had one of them for almost a decade and trust me, it is a big plus.

Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. They have given away too much of your money already to rescue incompetent business executives and soon your American Dollars will resemble Zimbabwean Dollars in total worthlessness. There is no free lunch you know.

Although we originally let you get away with secession because King George was robbing you blind, recent events demonstrate that your present leaders are doing much worse things and unfortunately you have not noticed.

A questionnaire will be circulated next year to determine whether more than half of you still believe Saddam Hussein was behind 9-11. Information to the contrary will again be provided by the rest of the world and we request you read it this time and refrain from invading the wrong country ever again if you possibly can.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary.

1. Then look up aluminium, and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.

2. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as'favour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix -ize will be replaced by the suffix -ise.

Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up 'vocabulary').

3. Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as US English. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of -ize. You will relearn your original national anthem, God Save The Queen.

4. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. But we have a lot of Bank Holidays you will enjoy instead.

5. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent.

6. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

7. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.

8. All intersections will be replacedwith roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

9. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline)-roughly $9/US gallon. Get used to it.
Your driving armoured cars to buy groceries is unnecessary, boorish and killing the planet.

10. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar.

11. We will require that people running things, like your government, are at least moderately competent and not related by blood or bribes to those who benefit from their decisions. We know it makes you more cozy when your leaders know as little as you do, but, honestly, it is short sighted: you need doctors who know more about medicine, pilots who know more about flying and leaders who know more about leading.

12. We respectfully request you give up this notion that Politics is Entertainment, and that very complicated things can only be explained to you in less than fifteen seconds. If you wanted to have a democracy, honestly, you'd really need to have taken the time to understand things a bit more before you voted. And may I suggest the startling notion that politicians don't need to look good to do a good job? And it really is acceptable if they are a bit boring, so long as they do their homework. It'sespecially important if evidently you have not done yours. Poor old Al Gore.Poor old John Kerry. And by the way, are you happy now you chose a Governor for California based on his teeth?

11. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. South African beer is also acceptable as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting Nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth - see what it did for them.

12. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie McDowell attempt Englishdialogue in Four Weddings and a Funeral was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.

13. You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies). Don't try Rugby - the South Africans and Kiwis will thrash you, like they regularly thrash us.

14. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learncricket, and we will let you face the South Africans first in their country. The six out of ten of you who don't own a passport will need to get one first.

15. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.

16. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776). Although this will raise your taxes, remember that the Neoconservatives will no longer be robbing you blind and so your Dollars will stop shrinking.Didn't you know that inflation and government bailouts of huge companies were really paid for by you? We must do something about your educational system. What on earth is going on over there? Are you oblivious to the crushing debt you are leaving your children? You might as well throttle them now.

17.Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 pm with proper cups, never
mugs, with high quality biscuits (cookies) and cakes; strawberries in season.

God Save the Queen.
But at least God won't instruct your President
to invade any more wrong countries.

adapted from John Cleese.

Yeah, in all honesty, I would be 100% for The Motherland reclaiming the USA.
Wonder what they ruling government would say to receive a letter from an American Citizen "Dear Britain, please take us back. We need you. Sincerely, Lex."

"Dear Lex, while we can't do this at present there are plans in the near future. In the meantime please accept this tea and crumpet gift basket and consider going to one of our superb colleges."

Very Happy

Hang on, isn't UK the place that has cameras all over the place (yet higher crime rates than the US), taxes out the wazoo, government controlled television, and droves of its citizens leaving for the US (or other countries)?

I'm getting annoyed with people who complain about how bad their government is, yet don't do anything about it! I'm not simply talking about those who don't vote, but also about those who do vote, and then go back to sleep for four years after November 4th.

I'm involved with several activist organizations, and I see what grassroots organizing, direct action, and education can do for your cause. Just sitting on you @$$ and hoping that politicians might do something isn't going to help, activism will. It isn't a surefire way to get things done, but it has, past and present, made many victories.
A local group has engaged in direct actions during evictions related to the housing crisis and has successfully stopped several people from losing their homes.
Through education I've been won over by some movements, and have managed to bring fresh blood to others.
A few friends in The UC system have convinced many affluent alumni to stop giving money to the school until it cuts its ties with the military's weapons program. They've also managed to get recruiters off campus during job fairs.
These may all be small victories, but they are victories nonetheless. If more people were actively involved in the causes which they're passionate about, then a lot more would get done.

After election day is over, it doesn't mean you should stop paying attention and stop being active. You should be MORE active, pressuring the politicians you voted in to deliver upon their promises (or, if you have views that are not represented by mainstream politics, then stand up, shout out, and make sure that people are paying attention to what you believe and try to win over support... without 'fringe groups' crying out, some movements, such as the environmental movement, would likely be a hell of a lot weaker than they are today.)

^^^That makes me think on those people that left their country because X was elected Y and they are proud members of the party of Z.

I personally feel that some (though not all) of the people who leave are a bit of quitters. I mean, they consider they can't help their country to be a better place anymore and that is doomed, so is better give up and go than trying to make it a better place, a place where Republicans and Democrats can live together in harmony, or at least stand each other.

If you leave solely because your candidate loose, then you are a bad loser.

I mean, is not bad to go and see and learn new cultures and I do not agree with some things of my culture, but one should be who raises the children, not just leave them to society to raise them.

Some people here have gone because of the current government, for example. Usually they leave to US and Europe and they are disregarded by a substantial number as reactionaries and cry babies and I could disregard any of each other of Dems and Reps like that just because their candidate loose is the end of the US as we know! It's gonna be a Fascist/Communist/Theocratic/Hippy dictatorship from now on!

But no, is not like that... or at least I don't think is like that...

My two cents...

You want the ineffective, unelected, narrow minded, ignorant, short-sighted tosser? Hell I'll even stick a big black bow on the oversized box that I have to send him in Mad
