PostSubject: Tech Support?   Thu Oct 02, 2008 4:46 am

So I'm using Firefox 2 (cos many of my add ons and what-not aren't FF3 compatible mostly... though a few other things as well.)
Lately, however, I've noticed something odd... and I'm uncertain as to WHEN it began but it was fairly recently (no more than two weeks max.) It's quite possible that it occurred after the most recent FF update.

Here's a screenshot of the problem:

As you can see, the text box is completely whited out.
The first time I noticed it, I thought I had highlighted my text with Ctrl+A or something but no, that's how it looks all the time.
What's also interesting and just as annoying is that some websites that require me to enter a username and password.... the Username box is also "whited out" exactly like it is for the "enter signature" textbox.

Since it's not just on this site... I...
Well, the other site I tried it on was also a message forum...
Is it possible it has to do with the forum?
However, I think it's also on other non-forum websites as well... and if that's the case, my assumption is something to do with Security and FF is getting the boxes confused (username and signature opposed to password's textbox???) Though I didn't see anything I could disable...

Any thoughts/ideas?

Can you not change the settings in firefox? Just to change the background to Black?
Shame we dont have firefox at work I'll have a proper look when I get home. Have you tried getting on the Firefox message board?

As far as I can tell, there's nothing within the Tools > Options and any of its subsections that relate to this. It is possible I've overlooked or am looking in all the wrong places though... but I've checked over it time and time again and even still, surely I would have seen it by now.
Haven't tried the Firefox message boards... totally forgot they even existed. The only time I went there was to find a location to download Firefox 2 the day they released Firefox 3. Laughing

Here's some more examples...

1) Our Site:

Also discovered the text boxes under the browse box are whited out.

2) Other forum:

^That's much more common... just the Username text box whited out. The signature, avatar, etc. sections elsewhere on the site are working fine with the standard backdrop.

It seems that here is where the worse of it occurs...
But, again, as it's occuring elsewhere... I still have no idea why/what could cause it.
I hope it's not some sort of weird/lame virus created to be more of a headache than cause any actual problems... cos man, I sure do have a headache over this. ^.^;

I had a lot of problems with Firefox when I got it. It would tell me to download the same Adobe Flash player every time it opened up a page that required it, even though I"d downloaded it several times before.

What happens when you go into Tools > Options > Content > Colours and then you can change the background colour.

Not sure what else could work.

Just got done playing around with that color section. Took off the "Allow pages to choose their own colours instead of my selections above" and switched it from White to Black but then like EVERYTHING on this page (the grey, dark grey, etc.) was black.
Experimented with other combinations and still no luck.

Based on that trial and error process, I think it's the individual websites that are forcing the whited out text boxs due to the "Allow pages.." thing.
Guess I'll try finding the FF boards and asking there.

Thanks for your assistance, Vampira.

Badart, I know on public computers the add-ons will some times delete themselves. Perhaps you had a similar function on your Firefox where it only temporarily used it opposed to permanently saving it. crazy
