Since a few friends and I are planning on starting a needle crafting circle, I decided that it would be good to introduce some charitable projects to them. I remember that at one point there was a thread on the old boards about doing DIY projects for different organizations, so I thought that it might be nice to revive that.

    Here is my contribution:

I recently came across an organization, Goods4Girls, that made me think of reviving that thread. Goods4Girls provides cloth menstrual pads to girls in third world countries. It seems like a really great organization- definitely something to look into if you need a weekend sewing project.

If anyone knows of other organization where sewing, knitting, and other DIY skill could be put to good use, please post them here!

I know children's hospitals are usually in need of blankie donations and little hospital gowns. Sometimes they also need barbie size and baby doll clothes. You'd just need to contact the hospials to ask to see what they are in need of at the moment.

hug It's really thoughtful of you to post this.

What a wonderful idea. I can totally agree with Cyn's idea of asking local hospitals as my eldest who is now almost as tall as me was only a 5lb weenie when she was born and we were very grateful for a lot of tiny clothes as everything that I had stuck in my bag drowned the poor wee thing heart

Same here Mrs.D my demon only was 5lbs 6oz when born he was long but little. I never knew they had charities out there like that when he was born. I would of loved to have taking him home in something that did not swallow him up. LOL

Me and my son do a couple of charities in Dec Operation Christmas Child

    Toys for Tots

And in the later half of November the Childrens Hospital puts up a mitten tree with construction paper mittens on it with wishes from needy children that would like something special for Christmas. We usually grab about 4 mittens (one to buy for each week before Christmas week.

We also help out with my mothers hospital unit (she is a HUC) and they adopt a family for Christmas so I usually help with the bake sale items to help raise money towards that and donate toys if they have children in the house.

We've done the Operation Christmas Child since Kate started school and it's really good fun (apart from wrapping the shoe boxes that is)

We have been doing that for the last three years . Last year we did 3 shoeboxes and he wanted to do more but we did not have the time to fit another one in.
