Hey guys! I just watched this interesting video from Amy Nekrotique about the death of Futurepop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUj9YjfOiUsI'm feeling totally out of the loop because I was clueless that it died. I still listen to Covenant, VNV Nation, etc. all the time. Maybe I'm just stuck in the past, but I thought people still liked the genre? What do you guys think?

^ We had VNV Nation tour through here and a good amount of people went to the show, so either it's only still relevant to the fans or it's coming back around. I noticed the same thing with Lords of Acid and Collide, but they're still making music and doing their best to be noticed.

Yeah I saw them last month too and it was a sold out show. Everyone was super into it (and the band was effing amazing!). That just makes me wonder if she's right about Futurepop being dead or if she just means there's not any new bands coming out in the genre? I don't know of any new ones, but I'm not a person who seeks out new music. People obviously still like the music!

I recently (within 6 years) got into electronic music in general, I had no clue these things were dead. Now I have a lot of bands to message and give them the bad news that there is a YouTube video with not great audio mixing (not to be mean but the music needs to go down and the narration up) declaring their genres deaths even though they just put out albums within the last 3 years and/or are touring. Man I sure hope industrial and synthwave don't die in the same "no one even knew it" fashion.

Not trying to throw shade, I'm just saying, is a scene really dead if the people in the scene are still going to shows and buying albums/merch and the bands are still touring and putting out albums/merch and it never had mass market appeal to begin with? We're talking about a lot of niche here, it's not like 90's pop-punk that was everywhere. |

Yeah, that's kind of what I was trying to figure out. If people are still playing it, and they're going to shows (which means there are shows to go to), why is she calling it dead? Is it just one of those things that people say to sound cool? It's not dead in my house, that's for sure!
