Something of the night: Designers go back to gothic


I hope this means we can all get some awesome fashion bargains on the markdown racks after this trend is over.

Out with the old and in with the... old? I suppose it just goes to show that Goth has a supreme elegance that will always resurface, in one form or another. I wish they would drop the gold "crucifixes" (Umm...that's with Jesus ON it, smarties...not just a cross) though... no self respecting Goth I know of would wear that. >.<

My heart sunk a little in my stomach but this would mean that I can find clothing for cheap. I'm glad I have platforms; they will at least separate myself from the crowd.

This reminds me, I found an amazing fashion magainse called Dazed and Confused and they are doing a dark special this month's issue really really good!! Had interviews with some designers who do generally more gothic and edgy stuff.

Ugh...when are they going to learn that most goths like silver, not gold? Gold crosses clash with the buckles and spikes LOL

Here's a link to Giles Deacon's where they say "nowhere is the goth vein more evident". If this is what they are calling "goth", then I really think we have no worries. Since when is wearing a blue square sequin dress with a bit of black gauze wrapped around your face considered "goth"? This looks like something a Hollywood starlet would do if she walked into a goth club on Sunset at the spur of the moment after an awards show. Am I crazy or do the shoes not even remotely match?

All those gold chains on that models necklace from the article reminds me more of rap than gothic.

This is the second or third time in my short lifetime that I have seen goth come to the mainstream. I remember forever 21 and charollete russe having punk goth influenced clothing. It did not look right at all. It seems to me they just stuck a chain and some safet pins on a black tank and said "thats it"

Retroscope: Holy Toledo. Yep, I think we are safe. That is horrendous. And those shoes~! Turquoise? I thought that trend died in the 90's!

^Yeah...that's the fashion industry for ya. It makes no sense. I was wondering why they stretched knee high pantyhose over their heads, too. I thought that was something most people STOP doing when they are old enough to colour inside the lines.

Hah! and watching the Mc Queen video a large part of it is a strings version of smells like teen spirit sounds so much better! Maybe its me and my affair with strings but *swoon*

John Galliano, Viv Westwood, Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Walter Van Bierkendonck and McQueen are the designers to look out for though really I love them

Well on this topic a few of the biggest alternative clothing labels (Criminal damage, Living dead Souls) are actually producing lines for some high street retailers like Primark

^I think you are right, Raven. If it is lacy/velvet/black... "Gothic" is slapped on it. It says something about the public's definitions, I think.

Because of this,posted today in bitch,rant and moan :

Not a rant as such but I was in Superdrug buying lovely makeup today and their in store radio suddenly announced that the new make up look for the Autumn was GOTH!

"Dark eyes, dark lips, big hair, mystery.....blah, blah blah" It really wouldn't have bothered me except for that half of the shop started staring at me and I just wanted to fling myself into the cotton wool display and hide!
