This is crazy! Forget photoshop - now they're using computer images (with real heads) in their photos. |

| Photo #2 of 7 looks pretty freaky. Her neck is super long & her head is at an odd angle. The imaging nerd in me appreciates that one can make a model body look completely realistic, but it is pretty weird. I still don't think knowing that these images are computer generated will make people less fanatical about the super-skinny model/body issues. |

| ^^^And the fact that most of them are in the EXACT same pose... yeah. Even without the tip-off, I think I would have thought something was off. |

| That's pretty sad. I would like to see more thick models instead of sticks. Maybe then I won't be so upset about my figure. |

| I wonder how much further our obsession with the perfect body will digress. Soon, even CG models won't be perfect enough. _________________ I'm a werewolf, not a vampire! |

| ^^I agree. I saw a documentary on netflix about modeling and already naturally skinny girls were being told they were too big...the reason being high fashion designers want to save money on expensive custom fabric. wtf

EXACTLY. That's the most f***ed up thing about it: physical damage and self-hate simply b/c designers are cheap (which begs the question, with the prices they charge, do they really get to be cheapskates?). |

I hope one day we can celebrate being a healthy weight (what ever is recommended for your height, age, activity level..etc) |

| ^^ I would hope that the rising popularity of models of mixed heritage is edging us closer to recognizing a wider range of physical ideals. (searches in vain for that Allure magazine article I read a while back about the increasing number/popularity of models of mixed heritage) |

| ^^^ I think its great that different cultures/races/ethnicities..etc have such a diverse array of body types, however there is still an ideal standard for ever culture. This can good and bad too....or maybe I dont make any sense with my points. |

| This is me not caring. Just saying, perspective here is its just H&M fashion and really who cares about H&M? Tin Tin, Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy 7: Advent children, all movies with fully digital people, they could have used real people for more than just voices and maybe motion capture but they didn't and no one cared. If no one cares that actors were replaced with CG that had to cost much more or maybe same price to animate then why care about models being replaced with CG in stills that had to cost less and for H&M of all things, thats like caring about the gap or AE outfitters... _________________ |

| ^^^Because of the message it sends to women about their bodies. Do you like being made to feel that however you look will never be good enough because you will never be able to get as skinny as the pictures? People really do hold others to those standards of beauty. It may not be our particular genre, but it still affects other human beings (some of them even on this site. It's not just for 'normal people'). Some of those other human beings are ones that we particularly care for like sisters, nieces, friends, lovers, ect.
The goth scene has something similar to it with skin whiteness. I've read plenty of comments over the net of girls (and some boys I think) wanting to know ways to artificially lighten their skin so that they could look like the people in the goth magazine. These types of ads are damaging to a woman's self-esteem and comfort with their own body.
Would you really like it if I were to post pics of super skinny/buff men and continually say, year after year that those pictures are the ideal and any deviation from them is something to be despised?
Here:
| Spoiler: | | | |
Any goth/alternative guy not to this standard is repulsive.
Now, how do you feel? |

| lost my post... take two... I could maybe have phrased my post differently but point stands, has nothing to do with genre. Why care about H&M when theres a bigger badder monster on the block? Theres a whole huge indestry saying "look like this" in TV, Movies, Mags, Music pretty much everything why give so much attention to 1 store that runs ads. Thats like caring more that you broke a finger when you got a gun to your head. Males do get this too, no way anyone can just skate by and say this is a womans thing and men are soooo lucky they dont get it. Mens Fashion, Male Fashion, V MAN, Mens Health, Mens fitness, just about any workout informercial that isn't about dancing in some form or our need for "male enhancement" and thats just a small part... Point is theres a whole indestry out there saying the general public isn't good enough. _________________ |
