A 48-year-old has reportedly become the first person in the world to be officially recognised as gender free.
According to The Sun, Norrie May-Welby was born male in Paisley, Scotland but had a sex-change operation to become female in 1990.
Later, May-Welby - who has lived in Australia from the age of 7 - opted to become a "neuter" after deciding that they were also unhappy as a woman.
May-Welby said: "The concepts of man or woman don't fit me. The simplest solution is not to have any sex identification."
The authorities last week put the sex-free categorisation, believed to be the world's first, on May-Welby's birth certificate.
A spokesman for UK's Gender Trust welcomed the solution and said: "Many people like the idea of being genderless." _________________ ”Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." ~H. L. Mencken

| I'm happy there was a solution for them as far as, but not limited to, gender on the birth certificate goes. And I do hope that after going through all these physical changes that they are and will continue to be happy. There's just this leery feeling or more so thought... I so hope that they just aren't a person that finds it hard to be happy for very long with any given situation. But here's to much happiness!!!! Question though, now that it was made legit on their birth certificate will there be a change made to all paperwork country wide that requires a check mark in the box [M] or [F] ? Well, May-Welby will have a conversation starter right there until then, if and or when they come across that section on any forms. |

Not necessarily. There are many places around the world (India comes to mind) where there's a third "gender"..
Whether because of genetics or operations, it is possible to have either both sides of the spectrum (hermaphrodites, transgenders, ect) or none at all. I haven't really heard of any cases yet, but I know there's those out there that are born without any sexual organs. Society usually just makes these people "pick a side" instead of letting them be what they are. |

There's actually a huge difference between sex and gender; a lot of people just use the two interchangeably.
Sex is biological, gender is all sociologically constructed (men don't wear dresses, women are nurturers, etc.) A lot of people choose to be genderless; they just stop buying into the concept that one's roles, aesthetics, clothing, etc. should be restricted by socialized gender.
I personally see gender as an outdated, restrictive construct. |

| They may render themselves physically genderless, but genetically, they will always have some kind of sex attached to them. _________________ I'm a werewolf, not a vampire! |
