Strangely enough Id love to spend a night in the attic of that old house. I do agree with everyone else that doll is ugly however I suppose that's is part of it's charm. However i've heard of a few other doll's like robert there's quite a few well known ones.

Poor Robert! He's just fuggly! I have seen haunted jewellery on ebay - the ring that I really liked apparently had the spirit of a little girl attached to it! I have two already and another one would quite possibly kill me

LOL! Pure Evil = Negative Image

Boy, I wish I got to do stories like this back in my cameraman days.

Synth wrote:

And here I shall probably sound subjective, which I like to think is uncharacteristic, but anyhow...

Yeah, he was a paranoid schizophrenic or an MPD or something who projected his disorder onto the doll - and that's not terribly uncommon, and therefore is NOT the interesting part of this story.

Eugene and the doll would be just another case file for the psychologists if that's all there were too it. Psychology is interesting sure, but that's not what this story's about. It's about:

1) The plumber that ran out of the building.
2) The kids that saw Robert skulking around up there.
3) The visitors to the museum that say that his expression "seems to change" without knowing that someone thought the doll was haunted.

These are the things I want explanations for. Individually, I could explain them away.

1 - Skittish plumber heard a kid playing outside after hearing creepy stuff about Robert, thought it sounded like it came from the room where the doll was and went AAAUGH!!! (Believable to me after that one time that chick ran screaming out of my house for no apparent reason. Odd that.)

2 - Kids make up all kind of kooky stories about things that look out of place, and a fugly doll looking out the window at them is kind of weird.

3 - The way the doll is framed seems to give it some sort of "significance," so people will be looking for something "odd" thinking to themselves, "I wonder why this is in a museum?"

Still and all, it's a neat set of coincidences that makes for a neat story, and the psycho with the doll obsession is just the backstory to it, in my book.

I suppose if there's any merit to this story beyond pyschological details of the individuals dealing with it (from Robert, wife, kids, plumber, visiters, etc.) it could probably be...

The energy of the voodoo woman channeled into it either purposely or on accident in the creation of the doll gave it "life"... or at least the ability to draw in other energies from its surroundings. As Robert the Artist spent so much time with it, it's only natural the majority of absorbed energy was from him. Perhaps the negative energies as well then manifested as it collected over the years. Kinda like "Death By 1000 Papercuts" - individually it isn't a big deal, just a tiny "ow" moment.. however the more and more that grow together, it eventually leads to death.

The only other explanation I have is the power of belief. If enough energy is sent from any individual, though bigger results would require the belief energy of more than one person, then things can happen.
It's like some ghost "hauntings" are simply a manifestation of strong emotional energy at any particular place or around/"in tune" with any particular object. Instead of emotional energy it'd be spiritual energy manifesting.

Or... maybe originally it was all psychological and Robert the Artist was just a nut case. However, since then everyone "wants" a good ghost story, haunting, fascination with the unknown that their desires manifested and took form in a dominantly negative light (as people prefer dark, scary, evil when dealing with these things - "good" = boring.)

But man... what a creepy doll just the same.
