On friday I'm going to get my next tattoo. I'm having my stars touched up because in a few spots in the center of both stars the color looks blothy because not all of the ink stuck very well. I'm also getting the memorial for my dad done. It's a big skull, his initials in the right eye done in old english, a tear drop below the eye, flames above the head that are going to be natural gas flames, RIP in old english in the flames, and the shading for the skull is going to be done with purples and blues. I'm so freaking excited. The best part is even though I don't have the money my tattoo artist said I can just pay him back when I can. Very Happy devildance headbang bounce cheers woohoo witch exited nurse exited :db: nurse :db: great

Got more stuff in the mail.
My t-shirts, and rings. The amethyst wire one is bigger than I thought. But looks wicked!

I just remembered I'm working 1/2 day on Saturday -- which means extra $$ in my check! That should help with the bank account issue.

Payday... I also get to pick up my textbooks for the next quarter.

On an odd note, for some reason there's about $10 more in my bank account than there should be.

PostSubject: Re: I feel Happy   Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:32 am

My school gave me a refund check because my mom overpaid on my tuition.

It's tecnichally my mom's money (because she overpaied) but the check was in my name, so the money ended up in my bank account. I plan on giving my mom most of it, then using some to finally get my name changed-- I've been meaning to go through the legal process for three years now, but whenever I've gotten the money up, I've found myself needing it for school supplies, food, or medical expenses. I'm so excited to finally have the money together to go through the legal process... I'll no longer have to grudgingly sign my old legal name on official documents, explain to professors that I shouldn't be called by my legal name, and explain to people why the name I tell them is different from the one on my ID. I know it's dishonest to take $150 of that money, but I feel like I've waited long enough for this.

To top things off, I was also going to use some of the money to get my first tattoo, but I just found someone at school who is looking for people to tattoo for a project, for free. He used to work at a tattoo parlor, and is an amazing artist and human being, so I'm excited to have him ink me.

The pronunciation of my legal surname is extremely close to the pronunciation of "syphilis"-- close to the point where the two are pretty much indiscernible.

Not only that, but it is also a symbol to my connection to my dad. He and I have some pretty deep issues. He would always taunt me and make fun of me relentlessly when I lived at home; my mom never stopped him and just told me to deal with it because it was "the only way he knew how to relate to me" or some bullsh*t. He also as very bad anger issues and will often scream at me and threaten me over stupid little things; even going so far as to call the cops because I have two friends over for tea and chatting at the ungodly hour of 8pm. He only has these anger issues when my mom isn't around, and she didn't believe he was actually like this until I had already moved out. I know a lot of other people have had it much worse than I, but being mocked and taunted every day, and having to worry about what small accident will send him screaming or throwing things at me-- it doesn't make for the healthiest of home environments.

I'm not willing to deal with an STD for a last name, and with that constant reminder of my connection to someone who abused me for so long.

That's awful, DD. I'm glad you're not around him anymore. Congratulations on your upcoming name change. hug

Not the same, but: I briefly considered keeping my maiden name once I was married, b/c it reflects my ethnic ancestry, but then I thought, the last Mrs. N**** was really unhappy (my mom was abused by my dad). And besides, my husband is really touched that I now have his last name.

I agree DD, that is a great reason for a name change.

Personally I always said that I would keep my last name because I'm the last in my family line. That it is my right to have my child take that last name because it is coming out of me. I made that promise to my dad when I was little and he said it would never happen. So I was determined. Now I'm not so sure. I still really want it, but when matt and I talk about marrage, he gets upset that I don't want to change my last name and the thought of his children not having his name. It's not that he forces me into feeling bad, but personally my head is saying, "how can you make someone you love upset about something like that? But but but I really want my last name to prevail so I can keep my promise. I just don't know. I feel like I have to fail one. Which one?"

^^ You could have your maiden name be your middle name, and the child's middle name as well. Some of my friends are doing that -- either that, or hyphenating the two last names.

I'm working on unframing, cleaning up, and reassembling medical degrees from 1902. The frames and documents disintegrate at the edges as I work on them, but it's still amazing to work with these pieces of history. I just unfolded a ribbon that's been creased for nearly 108 years! There's still a bit of color inside the creased bit. Smile

To go with all of my other life changes, I've decided to get back on the vegan wagon.

I've never betrayed my beliefs on animal liberation; I just ended up being a freegan for a few months... but then I realized all the non-vegan freegan food I was eating was just crap like cakes and brie, and it just made me sick and lethargic.

^^ Hehe! No doubt she'll rock em, too.

I called my uncle, the one who keeps threatening not to go see Grandma in the home anymore. Got his answering machine (things happen for a reason, I'm sure). I left a message saying I'd been meaning to call for a while now, and that I just wanted him and his wife to have my contact info, esp. with the situation w/Grandma -- and that it would be great just to hear from them too. Made it all as friendly as possible. We'll see if he calls back.

Oh -- also, I have an interview for a general manager position at Borders on Thursday evening! Hope it works out (if the pay & bens are good).

Chemistry totally kicked my a$$ this semester, and I'm honest enough to admit that unless I ace the next two exams, then it will effect my GPA and my transfer of credits to the next school. It's unfair to say Chem is boring, it's not, but the lack of any imagination in the initial study of Chemistry does not sit well with me. I form no opinion on any part of the subject, and feel like I'm supposed to just mindlessly gorge the information from the text book in hopes of regurgitating it back out during a test in the right fashion. This isn't learning, rather me being treated like a parrot, trying to mimic correct answers but not understanding what I'm saying or doing.

So I'm dropping the course and the lab, and would rather eat the money lost and save my GPA which is a 3.8 currently. I was a bit distressed until I came across the course which will fill my required science and doesn't seem like it will suck.

    Biology: Plants, People, Culture

A look at basic plant cycles and structure, and the effect of illegal, foreign, and poisonous plant life has had of societies. Yeah, something I can form opinions about.

^^ Sounds like a good switch to make. Your field of study doesn't require chemistry knowledge (unless you were headed for art conservation), and it sounds like the bio class has an anthro slant -- it could be a source of art ideas.
