I looked for this last night but it had been removed in the UK - apparently Daddy wanted to protect his girls.

I think they look great although they could benefit from better posture - metal rod through your belly button girlies!

They are beautiful girls! .. and of no need of any embarrassment on being goth. They could do far worse than being goth. One look at the world's current events prove that.

I know that the President is rather a bit causual and down to earth in his persona... which works with the sort of more relaxed look of this pic. I agree with Helen, I still would have worked with the girls too had I been their Mother or governess on how to stand during certain event pics, even if they've been sheltered away from publicity. It just feels more a selfesteem issue when you look at that pic.

Speaking of Mother's, check out mom there! She could be considered rather gothish in dress herself.

I would have done something completely different in taking a picture of all of them had I been the photograher.

Spot on Cyn. I think the daughters are trying to hide themselves away and blend into the background a little and the photographer could have set up the portrait in a far more relaxed manner. It must have been a huge occasion for them and they could have done with feeling a little more comfortable. Lovely girls though and Mum and Dad should both be proud.

Talking of Mum, I think you could be right. She looks like a gorgeous, sassy lady. No wonder she has such tasteful offspring

Definitly could have done a better photo shoot, but both those girls are just lovely! and Cyn, your right, they could be alot worse than goth. At least they aren't flashing the world all of thier body like most of todays teens.

His daughters are lovely and have nothing to be embarrassed about.

Which takes me back to the ""girls"" and I know I just gotta have this wrong, but when I started thinking about it and this photo was said to have showed up on the White House Flicker account by accident (I think.. I'm looking for that article) what if one of the Obama little girls were the ones that snapped it?

I have to run back in and lookat that article again, but if that is the case well... that would explain a thing or two.

Oh gosh, what if one of the Obama girls turns out Goth!!!!!

I hate it how the article said being a gothic teenager is a normal part of life. Well I am not a teenager anymore and still a goth, and I did Not turn to the goth scene because I felt like an outcast! I never felt that way.

I always believed it was an evolution and you didn't become a full goth until the teenage years were a distant memory?
