| For fun I was playing with The Political Compass earlier. Has anyone else done this? That's me Welcome to The Political Compass™ There's abundant evidence for the need of it. The old one-dimensional categories of 'right' and 'left', established for the seating arrangement of the French National Assembly of 1789, are overly simplistic for today's complex political landscape. For example, who are the 'conservatives' in today's Russia? Are they the unreconstructed Stalinists, or the reformers who have adopted the right-wing views of conservatives like Margaret Thatcher ? On the standard left-right scale, how do you distinguish leftists like Stalin and Gandhi? It's not sufficient to say that Stalin was simply more left than Gandhi. There are fundamental political differences between them that the old categories on their own can't explain. Similarly, we generally describe social reactionaries as 'right-wingers', yet that leaves left-wing reactionaries like Robert Mugabe and Pol Pot off the hook. That's about as much as we should tell you for now. After you've responded to the following propositions during the next 3-5 minutes, all will be explained. In each instance, you're asked to choose the response that best describes your feeling: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree or Strongly Agree. At the end of the test, you'll be given the compass, with your own special position on it. The test presented on this website is entirely anonymous. None of your personal details are required, and nothing about your result is recorded or logged in any way. The answers are only used to calculate your reading, and cannot be accessed by anyone, ever. Our sister application on Facebook does log scores, but the information is used only for social networking purposes, and is visible only within the user's personal network . We do not give anyone's score to outside organisations. If you don't want your score logged, don't use the Facebook app. The idea was developed by a political journalist with a university counselling background, assisted by a professor of social history. They're indebted to people like Wilhelm Reich and Theodor Adorno for their ground-breaking work in this field. We believe that, in an age of diminishing ideology, a new generation in particular will get a better idea of where they stand politically - and the sort of political company they keep. So are you ready to take the test? Remember that there's no right, wrong or ideal response. It's simply a measure of attitudes and inevitable human contradictions to provide a more integrated definition of where people and parties are really at. Click here to start. If you wish to contact us, email info@politicalcompass.org, but please read our FAQs first. Take the test _________________ ”Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." ~H. | My #s: Economic Left/Right: -6.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.82
I'm tucked securely in the lower left quadrant, slightly southwest of its center.
That was actually pretty enjoyable. |

| It was kind of fun. I found it kind of unusual to have political leanings that were so close to The Daili Lama's. I was a very devout Buddhist until very recently so it was a suprise that my core political beliefs didn't change more when my religious ones did. _________________ ”Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." ~H. | Just for the sake of it, I retook it and answered the way I used to think when I was a right winger. It's kinda scary to think that the result was almost like that of G.W. I even went as far as to answer in a kinda racist manner. _________________ I'm a werewolf, not a vampire! |

| I don't think so. When you look at the people in the lower left quadrant aren't they people that you could admire as human beings? How about the people in the upper right hand quadrant? Do you admire those people's political belief's in any way? _________________ ”Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." ~H. L. Mencken

| So I took the world's smallest political quiz and it really made some things clearer. World's Smallest Political Quiz
Your PERSONAL issues Score is 100%. Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 80%.
According to your answers, the political group that agrees with you most is...
LIBERTARIAN
LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and
economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one
that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.
Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose
government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate
diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.
Other Political Philosophies Left (Liberal) Liberals usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters,
but tend to support significant government control of the economy.
They generally support a government-funded "safety net" to help
the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business.
Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties
and free expression, support government action to promote equality,
and tolerate diverse lifestyles. Centrist Centrists espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control
of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue,
they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes
support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on
keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and
emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.
Right (Conservative) Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently
support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional
values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while
endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional
family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military,
oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy,
and endorse strong law enforcement.
Statist (Big Government) Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the
economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether
economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in
today's world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support
high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose
diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties. _________________ ”Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy." ~H. L. Mencken

Not a bit. We have some core beliefs in common.
I took the World's Smallest Political Quiz and got 90 on Personal and 40 on Economic; I am classified as a Liberal. No surprise there. |
