Build Your Own Bat House

You see, when I first saw this thread on the list, I read it as "Build Your Own Boathouse". Now that I've actually clicked on it I see what it's about.

Pretty cool. No bats around these parts though....or are there? Hm....must do some research.

Someone must have spiked our pepsi! I thought it said bath house.

Wow that's on the grandio scale of bat houses! Like a Bates Motel for bats! Mine are small compared to that. I may just have to build myself one of thoses for the bats around here
I haven't seen any bats out yet either. hmm...


*Ps. It's like I can't edit enough today.. but when I said that about it being "like a Bates Motel for bats!" I didn't mean that in a bad way. I was just thinking it would be cool to decorate the outside as such and stick up the sign over the roof. Look cool too, in my opinon when they go flying in and out of the bottom of it. Haunted Mansion would work too, but I got Motel from hotel, because that on is so much bigger than mine.

Well, we might just not have as many bats to see now because they've been sick. I've worried that the bats that live here might have gotten sick with this white fungus stuff that's growing on their noses. And might not make it back.

I was thinking that the white stuff might not be a fungus but the waste material of a parasite, but the experts would have said something different by now. It's been awhile since I'd read about it. Here's one article on it.

Great article, Ravengrim! Thanks! My husband and I are thinking of putting up a bat house -- we do have small bats around here, and they eat mosquitos, which means they *never* go hungry here. We have Asian Tiger mosquitos, which are literally out 24 hrs. a day.

The advice re: where to put it up is really helpful.

We have a bat house just up under our eaves. We have Pipistrelles around here One of Mr Damnation's colleagues actually fled his newly bought house because they literally had "bats in the bellfry" and there was absolutely nothing that they could do

That is a cool article! I would build one, but I pretty much suck when it comes to building things and I don't know how the people I will be living with will take it...
