    ...Reminder Info

    Am I ready???... No I'm not! :?

Most of you probably are already set. I hardly ever watch Tv and I don't have cable. I have the converter box, but have yet to put it on. I really need to do that if I'm going to catch The Vampire Diaries! Wink

*Oh and some stations have already some time ago switched over.

No cable here either, but I got and installed the converter box way back in November. Many channels had already begun to broadcast in HD back then. My only gripe is that I don't get PBS in my new place. Maybe the signal isn't powerful enough? I do get a few other channees I didn't get before, which is cool.

DirectTV has been putting out commercials that pretty much say that it's users are already prepared, so I'm hopping I am.

Hope so too. Because even if you don't watch that much tv there might be something on sometime that you would really want to watch. I bet you are set & ready though.

I was afraid of PBS not being able to be picked up. We might need an HDTV antenna too. I'm pretty sure if you can't pick it up a lot of us won't be able to either. I'm still looking into it though and what kinds. There are sooo many.

Well I just got my box on. And people like this??? :?

It looks like when a weatherman is standing in front of a blue screen with the weather map on it. Good thing I just mostly listen to it. Oh, but most important Diva I just hooked my plain old antenna on to it and it's picking up I think 2 PBS stations. Do you have an antenna hooked to it?

Yep, I have the antenna. I got PBS in the old apartment, but not here. Hm.

Good news! My husband just checked out out local PBS station's website...they're not transmitting a digital signal until the day of the actual DTV transition. Something about funding to replace their original digital antenna lost in 9-11. Or something like that. wtf In any case, we'll be getting PBS afterall.

Yes, Virginia, the DTV transition still isn't over

    I still think it's crap.

Now all I need is a box hooked up to the HD box, to convert the digital picture back to analog.

shock I doubt this would ever happen but what if this turns out to be the biggest fiasco the world has ever seen!

    Ahhhh... seeker Ma'bad.

"The switch to broadcasting in digital instead of in analog was mandated to free up wireless spectrum so that it could be used for other purposes. Digital signals use up far less spectrum than analog signals. The FCC has already auctioned off the spare spectrum in its 700MHz auction, which raised $19.6 billion for the government.

This auction generated more revenue for the government than any other wireless auction the FCC has ever held. Not a bad tradeoff considering that the government spent a total of about $2 billion to help get people ready for the transition. The Bush administration spent about $1.5 billion on DTV transition preparation, and Congress allocated another $650 million when it delayed the transition in February."

    *******
There was a storm going and I didn't get to finish. The power sometimes goes out when it storms really bad and I didn't want to lose what I had already typed up. I just want any of you that are happy with the change over, that I'm glad for that. Smile
